The procession took place in Juárez Avenue in Historic Downtown, which has been recently restored at the initiative of the Infrastructure Agency of the government of Baja California, presided by Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda.
The Secretary of Culture of Baja California, Alma Ábrego Ceballos, invited the public to attend since this an activity planned for and designed for the whole family. It represents a good opportunity for everyone to enjoy art and gastronomy and to find out things about Mexicali native and Chinese culture.
Additionally, she stated that there will be high quality cultural activities in the afternoon as part of the festival, including a digital show that shows the best that Baja Californian creativity has to offer.
She stated that the event will continue all the way until 9:00 PM on Saturday and will include several activities on the stage, in gastronomic areas, and in tours through the historic underground tunnels of La Chinesca.
The Organizer Committee of the Chinese New Year Festival highlighted the potential that La Chinesca has to become a touristic reference of Northern Mexico, thanks to its characteristics.
Lastly, Ábrego Ceballos underscored Governor Marina del Pilar’s initiative to make the event take place as well as Mexicali’s Chinese community’s disposition of making this festival a reality, which aims to become a new tradition in the capital of Baja California.
