ARGENTINA.-This morning, the Spanish rock world is mourning the loss of legendary Argentinian rock singer Gustavo Cerati. The 55-year-old grammy-winner died after four years in a coma in a Buenos Aires hospital as a result of a stroke sufferred after a concert in Venezuela, reportedly as a result of a respiratory failure.

Despite dying at a young age, his career spanned three decades and made him a rock star in the latin world. The sound of his band Soda Stereo and his solo work was inspired by Pink Floyd, The Beatles and David Bowie, but is more comparable to The Police.

A long time smoker and cocaine user, Cerati had previously suffered a stroke and indicated that he had turned his life around after reaching 40. Despite that he showed no signs of slowing down after his last album was released in 2009, called Fuerza Natural (Force of Nature), and won him three more Grammys. A year later he suffered a stroke that placed him into the four-year long coma.
