A new study published by Liberty Mutual Insurance and SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) has revealed that almost half (48%) of the teenage population uses their phone while driving and 56% has fell asleep on the wheel.
According to data from NHTSA, in 2013 nearly 3,000 fatal accidents were caused by distracted drivers, of which 10% where teenagers.
Other data revealed by this study was that 55% of teenager write and/or read their parents text messages while they are driving, out of this numbers only 19% tries to respondents within a minute and 25% within five.
The problem with teen drivers using phones becomes evident when 88% of the respondents confessed to feeling more secure when using apps related to driving, such as navigation systems.
And while we are on the subject of apps, these are some of the most used by teenagers:
Snapchat: 38%
Instagram: 20%
Twitter: 17%
Facebook: 12%
YouTube: 12%
That being said, respect your life and others' and don't text and drive. Driving requires attention and respect.
