For a lot of people, December 23rd is just a day before Christmas Eve or it means that they only have less time to do that last-minute Christmas shopping.

But for the rest of us, Festivus is a holiday created by Frank Costanza from Seinfeld, as an alternative to celebrating Christmas.

It consists of putting up an aluminum pole instead of a Christmas tree, then doing the Airing of Grievances, which consists of telling people at the dinner table the things they did that year that irritated us, followed by the Feats of Strength, which usually involves George Costanza being forced to pin down his father.

Of course, nothing beats having it explained by none other than Frank.

This celebration has gotten a lot of exposure over the years, even after Seinfeld ended in 1998. There’s even a company in Milwaukee that sells six-foot aluminum poles and has pictures of people posing next to their poles on their website.

Even Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul, has aired his grievances against his GOP and Democratic opponents on his personal Twitter account. Here are some screenshots:

So for all of you who are seeking an alternative to the commercialism and pressures of the Christmas holiday season, the San Diego Red team wishes you a Happy Festivus!
