TEXAS A widow was denied the burial of his deceased Hispanic husband in Normanna, Texas because it's a Whites-only cemetery.
"I love my husband with all my heart, that was 44 years with him and then all of a sudden this comes out of the woodwork", said Donna Barrera of her deceased husband Pedro.
The owner of the San Domingo Cemetery, Jimmy Bradford stood firm on his posture, stating that it's the cemetery's policy that no Hispanic or Black person is to buried there. The cemetery has been property of the Bradford family for generations and it was his great, great grandfather who asked for the cemetery to be for whites only.
The case has been pretty notorious that now the national executive director of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), Brent Wilkes, stated that they will take this matter to the U.S. Department of Justice.
"We intend to refer the issue to the department of justice. You can't discriminate on the basis of race. It is completely illegal and against the constitution, and we intend to ensure that this cemetery is opened up. It's obviously very disturbing and disappointing I thought it was something we buried 50 years ago.", said Wilkes.
