Tijuana’s Department of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPCM) is urging parents and guardians to take extra precautions this Halloween to ensure the safety and well-being of children and teenagers.

The agency encourages families to enjoy the festivities responsibly, emphasizing close supervision of minors and promoting a safe, incident-free environment.

Authorities recommend taking preventive measures before heading out, such as planning routes ahead of time if children will be trick-or-treating and ensuring that costumes are comfortable, visible, and free of dangerous accessories.

Parents are also advised to teach children not to accept unwrapped or suspicious-looking candy from strangers, to avoid entering unfamiliar homes, and to refrain from sharing personal information or locations on social media. Maintaining communication with children who go out in groups is also key.

The SSPCM highlights the importance of safety during celebrations, including following traffic signs, driving carefully in residential areas, and using crosswalks and other designated pedestrian zones. Residents are encouraged to keep personal belongings secure in public spaces, cooperate with authorities, and report any suspicious activity or crimes by calling 911.

The department also reminds parents not to leave children unsupervised and to check all candy before it’s eaten to prevent potential health or safety risks.

Prevention, the agency stresses, is the first step toward a safe and enjoyable Halloween.
