Five puppies being illegally sold at a flea market in Playas de Tijuana were rescued and are now under the care of the Directorate of Inspection and Verification.

The agency’s head, José Antonio Olivas Heredia, explained that the operation was carried out in line with the public policies promoted by Tijuana’s Mayor, Ismael Burgueño, which aim to protect animals.

According to Olivas Heredia, the incident occurred during a routine inspection of the flea market, when officers discovered an enclosure where five puppies were being offered for sale. The vendor was fined, and the animals were taken into protective custody.

José Antonio Olivas Heredia reiterated Tijuana’s zero-tolerance policy toward the illegal sale and mistreatment of pets. He also emphasized that additional measures are being implemented to protect animals and promote respect for their well-being, ensuring their safety at all times.

He added that the five rescued puppies were taken to the Municipal Animal Control Center, where they will receive medical care and food while awaiting adoption.

Olivas Heredia’s department regularly conducts these types of operations in hotspots for illegal animal sales. Such activities result in administrative penalties and the confiscation of animals.

Authorities urge citizens not to participate in these illegal activities, helping to ensure the protection and care of animals.
