The government led by Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz of Tijuana will host “Tijuana Multicultural: Expo-Venta Artesanal de los Pueblos Originarios” (Indigenous Peoples’ Artisan Expo-Sale) at Parque Teniente Guerrero in the Downtown area this Saturday, June 14, and Sunday, June 15. The goal is to boost economic growth for indigenous and Afro-Mexican communities.
Ofelia Hernández Juárez, head of the Office for Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs (DAPI), emphasized that with such initiatives, City Hall seeks to create spaces for visibility and participation for the indigenous communities settled in Tijuana, a city known for its cultural diversity and migrant identity.
Hernández Juárez stated that this artisan and gastronomic fair will be held at Parque Teniente Guerrero in Downtown Tijuana on Saturday, June 14, and Sunday, June 15, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
The event will feature 30 vendor booths offering a wide variety of handmade products by members of the Mixtec, Purépecha, Zapotec, Mazahua, Kumiai, Nahua, Tzotzil, and other communities. These artisans seek opportunities to sell their crafts while preserving their cultural heritage.
In addition to the sale of goods, the event will include cultural performances, such as traditional Chiapas marimba music, folk dances from Oaxaca, and a special appearance by the Tijuana City Hall’s Music Band, among other artistic expressions that highlight Mexico’s cultural wealth.
With these actions, the Tijuana City Hall reaffirms its commitment to inclusion, respect for diversity, and support for the local economy, fostering indigenous entrepreneurship, and promoting equitable opportunities for all.
