Japanese Tea Ceremony Returns to Balboa Park

Balboa Park will soon host an ancient ritual of precision and grace. On January 17, the Japanese Friendship Garden will present its monthly demonstration of Chanoyu, the traditional Japanese tea ceremony, offering visitors a rare, immersive glimpse into this revered cultural practice.

The demonstrations will be held in the garden’s Exhibit Hall with two timed sessions to accommodate guests:

  • Session 1: 11:00 a.m.
  • Session 2: 12:00 p.m.

Each presentation lasts approximately 30 minutes, during which masters from the renowned Urasenke school will guide attendees through the ritual, tasting prepared matcha green tea accompanied by a traditional Japanese sweet.

Advance registration is required due to limited space.
