These border city workers receive only about 20 cents per hour, and work 10 hours shift per day making these piñatas from Monday to Sunday, which then are imported and distributed by "Party Pieces", along with other items made in other countries.

One story that caught the reporters attention was that of Monica Villegas, a woman who made piñatas with the support of two of her children, a little one who is 5 years old and another who is 18 years old. The report also showed the living conditions that these piñata makers lived in.

The piñatas that are sold through "Party Pieces" sell roughly for about $20 each, and the companys earnings exceed 30 million pounds a year. Prices for other items sold through them were not disclosed.
Party Pieces has 30 employees that include Kates sister, Pippa Middleton, and was founded in 1981 by Kates mother Mrs. Carole Middleton.
After this report was released, the company spokesperson said they will investigate the issue further to address it with their suppliers.
Monica Villegas did not know the relationship between these piñatas and the Middletons, but still considered that the earnings made from this product was an abuse. Despite this fact, Villegas said she still needed the little money she makes and was not going to quit doing the work.
David Jones, who is the reporter who conducted the investigation, traveled to Tijuana to question Javier Perez Quintero, who is the person who coordinates the production and export operations in addition to supplying materials through Baja Pacific Paper Company.
Quintero instead threatened Jones after learning that this investigation would be made public.
