LOS ANGLES Los Angeles Galaxy and United States Mens National Team (USMNT) forward Landon Donovan has been called up to the MLS All-Star team by commissioner Don Garber. This will be Donovans 13th consecutive appearance with the MLS All-Star team.
The MLS All-Star team is scheduled to take on AS Roma on Wednesday July 31 at the Livestrong Sporting Park in Kansas City. The game can be watched live on ESPN 2 in English and on Unimas in Spanish at 6:00PM pacific time.
The Galaxy forward was initially excluded from the All-Star team this year due to his performance with the LA club. He has produced three goals and six assists in the 13 games he has played for the Galaxy during this MLS season.
His inclusion into this years All-Star team is due to the fact that his club teammate Robbie Kean who was selected will not be able to participate due to a hip-flexor injury. Kean was forced to miss last weeks game at home against Vancouver Whitecaps in which the Galaxy were able to pull out a 2-1 victory, and will miss the away game against Colorado Rapids.
Donovans recent for with the USMNT during the 2013 Gold Cup was probably a big reason why Garber decided to include him. He has five goals and seven assist during the five games so far far in the Gold Cup and hell be looking to improve on those numbers in Saturdays final in Chicago against Panama.
