The magical holiday transformation of Balboa Park’s historic Botanical Building is entering its final act. “Botanical Wonderland,” a nightly spectacle of festive lights, floral artistry, and live music, will close its doors for the season after December 31st.
Since opening on December 12th, the building has shed its daytime greenery for an evening glow. With the season concluding, opportunities to experience it are limited. Botanical Wonderland is open only Thursday through Sunday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Flowers, Community, and Fundraising Event
Visitors winding through the illuminated pathways are treated to the sight of nearly 700 brilliant poinsettias, the sound of local musicians like Emmy-nominated Darion James, and the warmth of seasonal drinks.
But this event is more than just a holiday display; it’s a key fundraiser for the park itself. Organized by Forever Balboa Park, admission operates on a suggested $5 donation. These contributions directly support the care of the park’s 20+ gardens, its 17,000 trees, and the hundreds of volunteers who maintain them.
According to Balboa Park’s official website, their intention is to create a space where families, couples, and anyone who loves Balboa Park can close the year surrounded by nature and celebration.
Botanical Wonderland is located at 1550 El Prado, Balboa Park, San Diego. If you want to conclude December and the year with a unique plan, these final days offer the perfect opportunity to see this iconic garden in a whole new light.
