Planning to drive south this weekend? Pay close attention! One of the busiest spots at the border will be temporarily closed.
The famous “Last U.S. Exit” on Camino De La Plaza, the final U.S. exit before reaching the San Ysidro International Port of Entry, will be closed from Sunday, August 17, at 9:00 p.m. to Monday, August 18 at 5 a.m. Drivers who miss this exit will have no choice but to cross into Mexico.

Detour in San Ysidro & Infrastructure Upgrades
To avoid surprises, drivers not intending to cross should take the Vía De San Ysidro Boulevard exit, turn right, then left onto Calle Primera, and continue onto Willow Road before reconnecting with Camino De La Plaza. This detour will remain in place during construction.
The closure will allow Caltrans to install new pipelines as part of an infrastructure project aimed at improving border traffic flow. Drivers should expect slower traffic, construction lights, and noise. The schedule may change due to bad weather or unforeseen incidents.
Once past Camino De La Plaza, there are no more exits—missing the detour means heading straight into another country. Plan ahead to avoid an unintended trip to Mexico!
