British scientists discovered this past weekend a shark species that was believed to be almost extinct, near Rockall Island, which is located in the North Atlantic.

The discovery of the eel shark, also called 'living fossil', for the old features that it is characterized with, has sparked a great interest in this species for scientists.

Along with the 'living fossil', the team also discovered two new species of mollusks and various polychaete worms.

The Rockall Island is a great point of interest for energy companies, who are seeking untapped sources of oil and gas in the Atlantic.

The international organization "Greenpeace", said that these latest findings should serve as a warning against any drilling in the area.
