One of the most popular and photographed natural events in San Diego is set to take place this weekend: a postcard-worthy sunset that happens only twice a year!

This weekend, residents and visitors alike can experience “Scrippshenge,” a cinematic sunset event in San Diego. Known as one of the most photographed natural spectacles in the county, it’s a must-see for anyone who loves captivating landscapes.

The phenomenon occurs just twice a year in the region, typically in May and August. It unfolds during sunset, when the sun aligns perfectly with the Scripps Pier, creating a truly breathtaking visual display.

Authorities expect the phenomenon to take place on the evenings of May 2nd and 3rd, at approximately 7:31 p.m. and 7:32 p.m., respectively. The event draws crowds of photographers, sunset lovers, and curious onlookers to La Jolla Shores.

Although the alignment lasts only a few minutes, it has become an unmissable spectacle in recent years. In fact, people often arrive hours in advance just to secure the perfect viewing spot.

If you’re planning to attend, keep in mind that several factors can affect your experience, including cloud cover, tides, and coastal haze. Mostly sunny weather provides the ideal backdrop for this natural wonder.
