NEW YORK – Popular figures of Mexico's legendary sport of lucha libre will tour the United States starting this month in the "Masked Warriors Live" tour.
They include Blue Demon Jr., Lizmark Jr., Latin Lover, Pequeño Halloween, Chavo, and Guerrero.
The tour is to begin March 23 in Reno, Nevada, and then moves to California for dates in Stockton, San Jose, Long Beach and Fresno. The tour then moves on to Arizona and Texas, where it is scheduled to end in mid-May.
Local professional wrestlers will participate in the matches in each city, as well as stars from Mexico, according to Alex Abrahantes, from Lucha Libre USA, the tour's organizer.
"Some 70 per cent of the families that turn out are Latino fathers, sons, grandfathers," he said. "Lucha libre is like a religion in Mexico. We're bringing this tradition to the United States.
"The other 30 per cent are American fans who know the characters and the lucha libre style of wrestling in Mexico," he added.
He said that the lucha libre show carried on MTV2 and Tr3s networks has many followers, who also follow the sport through social media.
