The magic of the holidays is rolling back into town as the North County Transit District (NCTD) announces the return of the beloved COASTER Holiday Express. This enchanting seasonal train ride, a cherished tradition for hundreds of families in North San Diego County, transforms a regular commute into a moving winter wonderland.
The experience features a specially decorated train that will embark on an approximately one-hour, non-stop round trip between Oceanside Transit Center and Solana Beach Station.
During the scenic coastal journey, guests can enjoy festive story readings, sing along to Christmas carols, meet Santa, and capture photos with holiday characters. The event is specifically designed for family fun, with activities like letter-writing to Santa for children.
Due to high demand and limited assigned seating, advance ticket purchase is required. Tickets are priced at $25 per person, plus service fees, with children under two riding free. Strollers, bicycles, and outside food and drinks are not permitted.
The Holiday Express will operate on two weekends: December 6-7 and December 13-14. The train departs punctually for its 60-minute journey, ensuring a seamless magical experience.
A Christmas Event That Gives Back
Embracing the spirit of the season, NCTD will be collecting canned and non-perishable food donations to benefit the nearly 1.1 million San Diego County residents, including over 284,500 children, facing food insecurity.
Donations such as canned meats, canned vegetables, canned fruit, peanut butter, pasta, rice, cereal, and oatmeal can be placed in the large red barrels located on the train platforms. All contributions will be donated to the North San Diego food bank for distribution to families in need.
