SAN DIEGO – The fact that the Mexican National Team is in town for a friendly match brings with it various football personalities; one of them former goalkeeper Martin "Pulpo" (Octopus) Zuñiga. Zuñiga won a league championship in Mexico with Chivas of Guadalajara and was part of the Mexican National Team that won third place in the Copa America of the same year.

In an interview with yours truly the former goalkeeper confessed that he believes San Diego has the conditions to be a venue in USA's top division Major League Soccer (MLS).

San Diego has a great fan base. With the right investors who put in money towards a stadium and quality players; the fans will respond" said Zuñiga "It would be nice rivalry with the Tijuana Xolos."

Zuñiga who now is a commentator for the U.S. TV network Time Warner Deportes covering the Los Angeles Galaxy is anxiously awaiting the big matchup between the Tijuana Xolos and the Los Angeles Galaxy in the CONCACAF Champion's League.

"It will be a very attractive match, the are practically neighboring teams. And in my opinion the Xolos will want to avenge that big 6-2 loss they suffered to the Galaxy in a friendly last year. Despite the fact Xolos played an entire youth squad, no one likes losing that way. Just like right now we all now Club America has the majority of their players with the National Team, but the youngsters that play for them in the league are still representing America and they are expected to win." Explained Zuñiga.

"El Pulpo" is currently in San Diego as part of the Allstate team; official sponsor of the Mexican National Team. Later on today Zuñiga and Allstate will surprise a local youth soccer team with a visit and give them proper equipment to practice the most beautiful sport in the world. Out of respect for Allstate and the fact that this will be a surprise, San Diego Red will not reveal the name of the youth team.
