Tijuana Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz officially launched 7 new garbage collection routes this week on the Paseos del Florido neighborhood in the Presa Este delegation, which is set to directly benefit 10,548 residents and enhance sanitation across the city.

The initiative is part of the administration’s broader commitment to building a cleaner, more orderly Tijuana through efficient public services. During the launch event, Mayor Burgueño highlighted that the new routes are the result of coordinated efforts between the Department of Territorial and Urban Development and the Municipal Public Services Office.

“Only as a team can we make great decisions and turn projects into reality. With this expansion, we are reaching every corner of Tijuana. We now provide garbage collection to 98% of the city,” the mayor said.

He also recalled that in his first year of government, actions to build a clean and orderly municipality were given priority, and were followed by garbage collection reinforcement program.

Mayor Ismael Burgueño also called for a collaborative spirit, emphasizing that the effort to transform the city must be a joint venture between society and government. He encouraged citizens to maintain clean environments to maximize the impact of the new services.

The seven new routes are projected to have a substantial impact, servicing 2,637 homes, two schools, and a local park. City officials estimate the new collection routes will remove approximately 49 tons of garbage weekly.

Virginia Vargas González, head of the Department of Territorial and Urban Development, said that these projects are fundamental to creating clean and safe environments for families through efficient and equitable management.

In a related effort, the municipal government continued its “Tijuana: Clean City” campaign in the Anexa Postal neighborhood of the Otay Centenario delegation. There, crews graded a primary school’s sports court, removed over 10 tons of garbage and debris, installed road signage, and cleaned storm drains.

The launch event was attended by the Director of Municipal Public Services, Josué Octavio Gutiérrez Márquez; Delegations Coordinator, Adriana Barrera Hernández; and the delegate of Presa Este, Joaquín Sandoval Chávez; as well as the benefiting residents.
