Mayor Ismael Burgueño officially handed over 120 fully equipped patrol units to the Tijuana Municipal Police on Monday. A ceremony, held outside City Hall at midday, marked the formal rollout of the new vehicles, which are now active across the city.

City Security Minister José Avilés Amezcua opened the event by emphasizing the critical role of modern resources in effective policing and how the vehicles are a direct investment toward building a safer Tijuana.

“I am infinitely grateful to the mayor for his political will, to his administration for its budgetary effort, and to the councilors and legislators who approved the funding. Through a multi-year procurement and leasing program, we are adding 120 new patrol cars, bringing our total fleet to 431. The total annual investment for this lease is 343,808,445 pesos, or approximately 28.65 million pesos per month,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mayor Ismael Burgueño reiterated that public safety remains his government’s top priority. He praised the coordination within the security sector and specifically commended Avilés for his dedicated and results-driven leadership since taking office.

The new vehicles are part of a broader two-year security enhancement plan. Each patrol car is outfitted with exterior and interior cameras, GPS tracking, and specialized technology designed to improve officer mobility, supervision, and operational effectiveness.

He emphasized that this equipment is a key tool for reinforcing city security and advancing Tijuana’s crime prevention strategy.

The mayor concluded by stating that Tijuana is rapidly becoming a city at the forefront of security technology. Investment will continue because technology is essential for delivering results and ensuring the people feel safe.
