Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz of Tijuana personally recognized the dedication of Morelos Park staff, highlighting the vital role they play in maintaining one of the city’s most important green spaces.
The mayor’s tour on Wednesday focused on the park’s Wildlife Conservation Management Unit (UMA), where he observed daily operations and supervised the condition of the facilities and natural areas. The visit underscored the city’s commitment to its public spaces and the employees who sustain them.

During the event, the mayor took the opportunity to honor team members with decades of service, some with careers spanning over 40 years.
“Morelos Park is a symbol of our city. I extend my gratitude to those who work every day to keep it clean, safe, and full of life. This is an essential gathering place for Tijuana families, and we must continue to care for it,” he said.

Gamaliel Becerra Gómez, Director of the Tijuana Municipal System of Thematic Parks (SIMPATT), explained that the visit is part of a broader municipal initiative to strengthen public spaces and support local biodiversity conservation efforts.
“The goal of this meeting was to connect directly with our personnel, hear their needs, and reaffirm our commitment to improving their working conditions and fostering team unity,” he said.

The gathering, held in the park’s Oriental Garden, included senior staff from the SIMPATT. Among those recognized were Raúl Cortina Rocha, with 45 years of service; Luis Felipe Guerrero Arévalo (38 years); Miguel Ángel Tirado Lizárraga (31 years); José Luis Miranda Sarabia (23 years); and Verónica Mirón Pintado (14 years), as well as staff from Parque de la Amistad and Parque Los Sauces.
The Tijuana government stated that such actions reaffirm its pledge to enhance public spaces, honor the service of its workers, and promote natural environments that improve the quality of life for all Tijuana natives.
