In a major step toward transforming the city’s urban landscape and improving quality of life for its residents, Mayor Ismael Burgueño of Tijuana has launched a massive road and street cleaning program. With 538.424 million pesos allocated for the 2025-2027 period, the initiative marks a historic investment in the city’s public spaces.
At the launch event, the mayor stated that this effort is a decisive move toward building the Tijuana its citizens deserve: a clean, orderly city and a source of pride for all.
“Today, we have the opportunity to make history. We are going to guarantee that every citizen receives quality public services. The work begins today, and you will see the results. We are fully committed to ensuring this administration is remembered as the best in Tijuana’s history,” he said.

Mayor Burgueño thanked Governor Marina del Pilar, City Hall councilmembers, and state congress deputies for their support on this project, which he described as a significant act of social justice.
“Today, we set a new precedent for Tijuana, putting our house in order and becoming part of a great transformation,” he noted.
The local Secretary of Territorial and Urban Development, Virginia Vargas González, outlined the plan, which will benefit all nine of the city’s delegations. Key actions include mechanical street sweeping, new road painting and signs, pressure washing of sidewalks, gardening and general maintenance.
“This will be accomplished by 16 fully equipped crews working Monday through Sunday on day and night shifts. This schedule ensures complete coverage across the city with minimal disruption to traffic,” she explained.

To support these crews, the city has deployed a fleet of 9 mechanical sweepers, 5 road-signage painting machines, 6 backhoes, 6 dump trucks, 6 pressure washers, 13 gardening brush cutters, 12 auxiliary vehicles, and a drone.
Tijuana’s Secretary of Government, Arnulfo Guerrero León, emphasized that every department and agency involved has worked tirelessly with the single goal of delivering quality public services to the community.
The new machinery will be deployed to provide cleaning and signage services on nearly 100 major boulevards and primary roads across the municipality, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to the responsible and transparent use of public funds.

Key roads and boulevards scheduled for attention include Cuauhtémoc Sur and Norte Boulevards, Paseo de los Héroes, Paseo Sánchez Taboada, Paseo Centenario, Independencia Boulevard, Agua Caliente, 20 de Noviembre Avenue, 2nd Street, Vía Rápida Oriente, Benítez Boulevard, Bellas Artes, Industrial, and Limón Padilla, among others.

A highlight of the launch event was a demonstration of innovative drone technology for high-altitude cleaning, which will be used to remove graffiti, dirt, and grime from iconic structures like the Arch on Revolución Avenue and the Municipal Palace.
