Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz of Tijuana led the “Sustainable Economic Development:  Prosperous Tijuana” forum, a collaborative event involving business leaders, academics, civil society organizations, and city authorities, aimed at advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through local action.

In his remarks, Mayor Burgueño highlighted the forum’s role in shaping the 2025 Voluntary Subnational Review, a key tool for tracking Tijuana’s progress toward the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda.

“I’m honored to be at this event, which centers on driving sustainable economic growth while also assessing this administration’s achievements in justice, equity, and inclusion,” he said.

The mayor also pointed to Tijuana’s strategic position as one of Mexico’s most competitive cities to stress the need for a growth model that sustains economic dynamism while ensuring residents’ well-being.

He added that the 2025–2027 Development Plan is aligned with state and national policies, as well as with the UN’s 2030 Agenda, reflecting both the public’s aspirations and his administration’s human-centered vision.

Pedro Montejo Peterson, Secretary of Economic Development, stated:

“Today is about listening, building a solid diagnosing, and outlining specific actions to integrate Tijuana into the 2030 Agenda. There is no economic progress without social and environmental responsibility.”

To that end, Carlos Jaramillo Silva, General Coordinator of the Business Advisory Council, underscored the government’s transparent and accountable approach to turn international goals into tangible local action.
