The Secretariat of Sustainable Urban Mobility, Inspection, and Road Safety (SEMOVIS) has deployed officers to more than 20 key points across the city to maintain traffic order on the city’s streets and improve flow in high-congestion areas, following instructions by Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz of Tijuana.

As such, the head of SEMOVIS Apolinar Fernández Álvarez explained that officers’ duties include regulating, signaling, and directing both vehicle and pedestrian traffic, helping to ensure smoother circulation while preventing road accidents.

The municipal official explained that officers are stationed at key locations such as Bulevar Cuauhtémoc Norte & Sánchez Taboada, Glorieta Independencia, Bulevar Manuel J. Clouthier & Vía Rápida Alamar, Bulevar Lázaro Cárdenas (5 y 10 intersection), Tijuana-Tecate-El Refugio Free Highway, Terán Terán & Vía Rápida Poniente, Vía Rápida Oriente (connection to Puente Buena Vista), Calle Segunda & 5 Esquinas, Aeropuerto Highway, among others.

At these points, officers also manage traffic signals based on real-time vehicle volume at each intersection. These efforts will continue to optimize traffic flow for the benefit of all Tijuana natives.

“We urge citizens to follow and respect traffic instructions given by officers. If we all cooperate—by not creating illegal lanes, obeying traffic lights, and stopping when required—we can significantly improve traffic conditions,” Fernández Álvarez said.

Lastly, Secretary Apolinar Fernández added that traffic light synchronization is being implemented along Downtown Tijuana’s main avenues, adjusting timing and technology to match the successful synchronization already in place on Calle Segunda.
