Mayor Ismael Burgueño of Tijuana Launches Cyber Police and Missing Persons Units to Strengthen City Security

With the implementation of the Directorate of Cyber Police and the Missing Persons Unit, the Tijuana government aims to strengthen security-related issues.

Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz of Tijuana inaugurated the new Directorate of Cyber Police and the Missing Persons Unit, which will now stand as new strategic areas within the Municipal Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPCM).

With the creation of this new Directorate, the 25th City Hall of Tijuana reaffirms its commitment to modernize and expand the operational capabilities of the municipal agency, comprehensively addressing the several security challenges the city faces.

“We are taking firm steps to establish a safer city where technology and interinstitutional coordination will be our main allies in tackling new security challenges. This will provide measures for the responsible use of technological tools and assist Tijuana natives in any situation that jeopardizes their physical and financial well-being,” he stated.

The mayor acknowledged the coordination with federal and state authorities to strengthen strategies aimed at providing citizens with the peace they deserve. For example, in 2025, the municipal government will enhance equipment and acquire more technology for intelligence operations.

The Directorate of Cyber Police will focus on preventing and combating digital crimes, protecting citizens from fraud, extortion, and other acts where social platforms are used for personal gain.

Meanwhile, the Missing Persons Unit will strengthen coordinated efforts with state and federal authorities to locate missing people, expedite search protocols, and provide support to affected families.

In addition, the Municipal Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Juan Manuel Sánchez Rosales, mentioned that this new area is composed of ten specialized and highly trained agents, who will have three vehicles and cutting-edge technology to efficiently carry out their duties.

With these actions, the 25th City Hall of Tijuana reiterates its commitment to the community by continuing to implement operations that contribute to a safer city.

This event was attended by Municipal Ombudswoman, Teresita Balderas Beltrán; the General Director of Municipal Police and Traffic, Juan Carlos Hernández Herrera; the Director of Crime Prevention and Citizen Participation, María Luisa Munguía Ramírez; and the Councilor President of the Commission on Citizen Security and Civil Protection, Ranier Alejandro Falcon Martínez.
