With the 2027 elections rapidly approaching, the race for Baja California’s governorship is beginning to take shape and early polling suggests that Tijuana’s current mayor, Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, holds a commanding lead among Morena’s prospective candidates.

According to the latest “Poll of Polls” compiled by Polls.MX, Burgueño tops the preference list with 30.8% support among potential Morena contenders, solidifying his position as the party’s strongest prospect for the state’s highest office.

The mayor enjoys a substantial lead over his closest rival, Senator Julieta Ramírez, who trails with 18.1% backing, a gap of nearly 13 percentage points. Evangelina Moreno, meanwhile, lags far behind at just 6.9%, placing her roughly 24 points below Burgueño’s current standing.

These figures reinforce Burgueño’s status as the candidate to beat as the electoral calendar moves forward. Notably, the registration period for aspiring candidates from Morena, as well as the Labor Party (PT) and the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM), is set to open on Monday, June 22, marking the formal start of the nomination process.
