Mayor Norma Bustamante of Mexicali, in collaboration with OXXO stores and Arca Continental (Coca-Cola), announced the operation of 31 new hydration stations as part of the “S.O.S. Hidrátate” program. This initiative aims to protect the health of vulnerable people ahead of the upcoming summer season.

“We are launching the ‘S.O.S. Hidrátate’ program with the firm purpose of protecting those most in need from high temperatures. We are joining efforts with health institutions and several businesses to prevent heat-related deaths among our citizens,” the mayor said.

Meanwhile, the President of the Municipal DIF Board, Karla Edith González, explained that the “S.O.S. Hidrátate” program involves distributing hydration kits (one liter of water and a Vida electrolyte powder packet) to homeless and migrants, thereby preventing health risks and fatalities from heatstroke.

She also mentioned that, in this first stage of the program, OXXO donated 14,000 liters of water, while Coca-Cola contributed an additional 4,000 liters. Additionally, she reminded the public that hydration centers are available at Albergue El Peregrino, Refugio Bellavista, Casa Betania, and El Mesón.
