Mayor Rocío Adame Muñoz of Playas de Rosarito once again demonstrated her commitment to fighting corruption by addressing a complaint from a tourist who was extorted by a municipal police officer.

According to information shared by TJ Comunica, the incident occurred on Sunday, May 4, when the officer responded to a domestic dispute report at the Misión Viejo resort and detained a man identified as Joseph Hollae.

He was then forced to transfer $700 to a personal bank account to be released. Following an investigation, the officer was fired from the police force.

Carlos Enrique Bernal Hinojosa, Director of the Municipal Police, addressed the case, stating that the officer responsible—who was in charge of holding cells—was dismissed as punishment, and the money was returned to the victim.

Bernal Hinojosa added that cleaning up the police force will be a challenging process, but claimed that they will remain strict in such cases and will not tolerate any form of police abuse. He also urged citizens to report these crimes.
