Drugs valued at more than $1 million were seized at two Border Patrol checkpoints in the last week.
The first occurred last Friday, when a 28-year-old Mexican woman stopped at the I-15 checkpoint in Temecula. Agents sent the woman, driving a 2006 Ford Fusion, to secondary inspection. There, they found 20 packages of methamphetamine hidden in various parts of the cars interior.
The drug, weighing a total of 35.27 pounds, had an estimated street value of $705,400.
The second incident occurred on Tuesday, around 4:40 p.m., when agents stopped a 21-year-old man
accompanied by 19-year-old woman, at the I-5 checkpoint in San Clemente.
The agents noticed that the two, both U.S. citizens, were acting suspiciously and sent them to the secondary inspection area.
With the help of a canine team, agents found 14 packages of cocaine hidden in plastic bags in the cars trunk. The drug weighed a total of 30.69 pounds, and had an estimated street value of $306,900.
The three people detained in these incidents were turned over to the DEA.
