According to data from Mexico’s Social Security Institute (IMSS), Mexicali closed 2025 with one of the highest average daily wages in Baja California, Mayor Norma Bustamante said.

As of December 31, the city’s average daily wage stood at MXN$748.09 per day, placing Mexicali above the statewide average of MXN$728.59 per day, based on IMSS figures.

Bustamante said the data reflects steady economic momentum in the state capital, noting that average wages have continued to rise year over year. In 2024, workers in Mexicali earned an average of MXN$693.77 per day, according to official records.

“The city’s economic activity, combined with public policies at all levels of government and strong productivity, created the conditions for continued wage growth throughout 2025,” the mayor said.

IMSS data also shows differences in pay by gender. By the end of 2025, average daily wages in Mexicali were MXN$788.42 for men, MXN$692.13 for women, and MXN$440.60 for non-binary workers.

Despite broader economic challenges, the city has maintained strong activity across key sectors. Officials point to a skilled workforce, high industrial demand, and continued foreign investment as factors that have helped formal employers increase wages.

According to IMSS, these conditions improved workers’ purchasing power by the end of 2025.

In comparison with other cities in Baja California, average daily wages were reported as follows: Tijuana at MXN$738.14, Tecate at MXN$718.96, Playas de Rosarito at MXN$664.62, Ensenada at MXN$655.54, San Felipe at MXN$623.79, and San Quintín at MXN$548.22.
