Through the municipal DIF, the government of Mexicali has launched an awareness and prevention campaign regarding the upcoming high-temperature season and its associated health risks.
Karla Edith González Navarro, President of the Mexicali DIF Board, explained that the primary goal is to inform homeless individuals about the locations of hydration and shelter points where they can seek refuge from the heat.

She also noted that support is being offered to migrants, including assistance for those wishing to return to their places of origin. Additionally, information was provided about DIF’s partnerships with rehabilitation centers for those in need of treatment.
The Mexicali DIF President mentioned that this multidisciplinary effort involved social workers, psychologists, operational staff, as well as collaboration with the Municipal Human Rights Coordination, the State Human Rights Commission, the Municipal Police Victim Support Unit, the Red Cross, and representatives from rehabilitation centers such as Red Baja-Son, C.E.T.A., ADERRCI, and Hijo Pródigo.

González Navarro mentioned that, as a result of the outreach carried out in the Ferrocarril area and Plaza del Mariachi, three individuals chose to return to their hometowns, two opted to enter rehabilitation centers, and one at-risk minor was placed in protective care.
Finally, she confirmed that the “S.O.S. Hydrate” operation will begin on May 14.
