Mexicali Mayor Norma Bustamante visited the Valle del Álamo neighborhood to review construction progress on a new soccer field aimed at improving local recreational spaces.
During the site visit, Bustamante said the project was made possible through community participation, noting that residents helped fund the work by paying property taxes and selecting the project through the city’s participatory budgeting program.

City officials said approximately 7.4 million pesos (about $430,000 USD) are being invested in the project. Planned upgrades include synthetic turf, 36 LED stadium-style lights and a new drainage system designed to prevent flooding during heavy rains.

The mayor said the project reflects the city’s broader effort to upgrade neighborhood recreational areas and turn taxpayer contributions into tangible benefits for local families.
