Mexicali Mayor Norma Bustamante met with representatives from several local companies to strengthen a partnership aimed at renewing the Abelardo L. Rodríguez Boulevard corridor. The initiative is part of a public space adoption program led by the city’s Department of Environmental Protection (DPA).
The meeting, held at IVEMSA’s offices, highlighted the importance of collaboration between the municipal government and the business community.
“This project is part of a bigger vision: creating eco-corridors that reduce heat islands, provide shade, and make our streets safer. It’s a reminder that public spaces are essential and that caring for them is a shared responsibility,” Bustamante said.

Rosa Castañeda, head of the DPA, explained that work along the Abelardo L. Rodríguez eco-corridor covers more than 53,000 square meters of green space, with a focus on native species like mesquite and palo verde.

The program operates under two participation models:
- Adopters take full responsibility for a space and its ongoing maintenance. Current adopters along this corridor include Dagal, Cajas Agrícolas, IVEMSA, and iVision.
- Participants support the initiative by providing plants, irrigation systems, and volunteer cleanup efforts. Companies involved in this capacity include Prodensa, Index Mexicali, and PIMSA.
Through these partnerships, the city aims to enhance public spaces while encouraging businesses to play an active role in community sustainability.
