The government of Mexicali is reinforcing its S.O.S. Hydrate initiative to mitigate health risks caused by the ongoing heatwave, with temperatures reaching 49°C (120°F) in Baja California’s capital.
Following Mayor Norma Bustamante’s directive, Karla Edith González Navarro, President of the Municipal DIF System, reported that over 12,000 individuals have received assistance during this extreme heat season. The S.O.S. Hydrate mobile unit continues patrolling various neighborhoods, distributing water and electrolyte solutions, and providing emergency transport for those in need.

She also reminded residents that “El Peregrino” shelter remains open as a cooling center, while the Bellavista shelter operates daily from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.
Hydration stations are set up at 31 Oxxo convenience stores across the city. Fire stations, Municipal Social Well-Being Centers, Public Safety Units (DSPM), and Municipal Medical Services clinics also serve as distribution points for hydration and risk prevention support.

Authorities urged residents to share this information with people in vulnerable situations or call (686) 2335 281 for assistance.
