Mexicali is set to undergo a major infrastructure overhaul as part of the state-backed initiative “Calles Seguras, Familias Seguras” (Safe Streets, Safe Families), which aims to revitalize more than 1 million square meters of roads across the Baja California capital and the surrounding Valle region.

The announcement was made during the morning press conference led by Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar, where Mayor Norma Bustamante confirmed the city’s inclusion in the program’s first phase.

With a combined investment of 756 million pesos, the initiative represents one of the most significant urban mobility efforts in the region’s recent history.

In addition, the municipality has ramped up local efforts this year, carrying out pothole repairs, maintenance, rehabilitation, reconstruction, and paving across approximately 605,000 square meters of roadway.

“With this program we are demonstrating that by joining forces, we are tackling decades of deferred maintenance and delivering safer, better-quality streets for Mexicali families,” she said.
