Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho” and the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), was killed in a federal operation on Sunday morning, according to an official report from the Mexican Army.
The operation, which took place in the municipality of Tapalpa, Jalisco, resulted in the death of the cartel leader, a confirmation first reported by Milenio. This strike has triggered immediate and violent reprisals across multiple states.

Following the operation, authorities reported coordinated blockades, the burning of vehicles, and attacks on businesses in at least four states: Jalisco, Guanajuato, Michoacán, and Tamaulipas.

In response to the escalating violence, Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro took to social media to confirm the operations and subsequent clashes in Tapalpa and detailed that similar incidents were unfolding elsewhere in the state.
In several areas, armed individuals reportedly set vehicles ablaze and positioned them across major roadways in an attempt to obstruct the movement of security forces.

On his X account, the governor stated that he gave the order to immediately convene the security cabinet with authorities from the three levels of government and to activate the “red code” to protect the population at large.
He also urged residents across Jalisco to remain in their homes and shelter in place until authorities can regain control of the situation.
This is a developing story.
