MEXICO.- Yesterday, convenience store chain OXXO announced that birth and death certificates, as well as marriage licenses, could soon be legally processed 'over the counter' through their stores in the Mexican State of Nuevo León, a program is being pushed by Mexico’s Secretary of the Interior, Miguel Angel Osorio Chong, in coalition with Nuevo León’s civil registry office.

However, company president José Antonio Fernández Carbajal said to Mexican news outlet El Universal that nothing has been approved so far, and that this proposal is still being evaluated.

As they wait, the company is preparing their stance on this matter. Meanwhile, as it usually happens in situations like this, Internet users did not miss the chance to joke around with the notion.

Future shotgun weddings at OXXO… Pros: Free coffee for the bride and groom, and two witnesses, exclusive service in counter 2.

At the civil registry: "Excuse me, I want to process a birth certifi–" "Sorry, this is not an OXXO"
