Mexicans are known for their ingenuity and their ability to solve problems and find creative solutions for everything. That’s exactly why a Mexican family went viral after bringing their own packed lunch during a visit to Disneyland California.
How a Mexican Family Made Tortas in the Middle of Disneyland California
A TikTok video shared by user @anaavalos480 revealed what many Mexican families choose to do during long trips or visits to places where they’ll spend most of the day—in this case, Disneyland California.
With the caption “Mexicans in Disney,” the clip first shows the family entering Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. Then they stop to eat, but what caught attention was their decision to prepare a classic, quick, and delicious meal: ham tortas.

While they had already brought the birote bread with ham and cheese ready to go, they added extra ingredients on-site, such as mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, pickled jalapeños, and even avocado. The meal was also accompanied by some Cheetos Bolitas.
The video has sparked mixed reactions among social media users, but many praised the family’s practical and budget-friendly approach:
“Good for them! I go to Disney to have fun, not to waste hours in food lines.”
This move not only saved the family time—since restaurants and food stands in the theme park often have long lines due to their popularity—but it also helped them avoid the park’s high food prices, which can add extra costs for visitors.
In the comments, another user mentioned seeing the same strategy at parks like Disneyland Paris, where visitors pull out tortas or even baguettes to eat on-site, noting that this isn’t just a Latin American practice:
“People get so shocked, but when I went to Disneyland Paris, I saw tons of families doing the same. They brought their own tortas and baguettes, and they weren’t even from Latin America! Many were from Spain, Italy, Germany, France, and nearby places. It felt like home, haha, because it reminded me so much of my magical Mexico.”
Despite some negative comments, many defended the family’s choice, pointing out that it’s not just about finances but also practicality and each family’s schedule.
