On July 31, the Mexican President, Enrique Peña Nieto, will undergo surgery to remove a "thyroid nodule", which basically is s a growth (lump) in the thyroid gland and are more common in women than in men.

"This is a surgery that will last approximately an hour and thirty minutes, and will be performed at the Central Military Hospital under the Ministry of National Defense", said a statement from the Presidency.

Peña Nieto will be off for four days and will be recovering at the presidential residence at Los Pinos. During these days he will only attend to private or emergency meetings.
