Mexican songwriter Ximana Sariñana is betting her fans like something "Different."
That's the name of the single of her self-titled new album, which is mostly all in English. That's a departure from her first production, "Mediocre" (Warner Brothers, 2008), which was all in her native Spanish.
Sariñana, at the House of Blues on Thursday, performs songs that are alternative pop-jazz easy on the ear.
The singer-songwriter has been drawing a lot of attention lately.
She's currently featured VH1's "Artists You Outa Know" and The New York Times sang her praises in a story July 28 titled "Straddling the Border, Eccentrically."
Her new album, released last week in the United States, was produced with the help of such English-language notables as Greg Kurstin (Lily Allen, Devo, The Bird and the Bee) and Dave Sitek (TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs), as well as Natalia Lafourcade.
It's scheduled for released in Mexico on Sept. 20. Ten of the 11 are songs are in English, with the lone exception being "Tú y yo" in Spanish.
Sariñana, 25, first became known as an actress in Mexican soap operas and films before launching her music career. She's the daughter of the noted film director Fernando Sariñana.
The singer, on a U.S. tour, was recently in the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago, where she was a hit.
