Update: 1:45PM(PST)

The protest is now over and everyone involved is clearing the area. The lines at the border are expected to go back to normal soon.

Over 3,500 people that included teachers, family and friends gathered at the San Ysidro checkpoint today to protest against the Mexican education reform.

This demonstration is expected to last for two hours, but it could extend much longer. This movement is part of the national march for this cause, where in Tijuana; there were 5,000 people who signed up for this protest of which 3,500 showed up.

Teachers first waited for the cars that were already in line to pass, and then started to get in position for the demonstration. For now, access to the San Ysidro checkpoint is closed and authorities have diverted motorists, many of which are extremely annoyed because they did not know of this this march.

Professor Pacheco, one of the protesters and organizers of the protest in the city, said that the dissatisfaction with the education reform is that it does not help education, but instead amends the laws that govern the teachers' union, making it into a labor reform.

Another interesting fact is the attitude of the Municipal Police, who have maintained the order and diverted motorists. Authorities are asking the public to avoid crossing into the United States today, and if you must, they are asking everyone to use the Otay border crossing.
