The foreign newspaper "New Straits Times" confirmed that the Mexicans Luis Alfonso, Jose Regino, and Simon Gonzalez Villarreal were sentenced to hang for drug trafficking in Malaysia.

In 2008 they were arrested inside a warehouse in Johor Baru, after being found with 13 pounds of methamphetamines and chemical substances to produce drugs.

Kitson Foong was responsible for the defense of the Villarreal brothers and said that during the criminal process, many faults were committed to the constitution and demanded a trial review, but his request was denied by Judge Mohamad Zawawi Salleh. One of the most important evidence was the disappearance of some of the drugs that were seized, which would indicate tampering with evidence.

The Villarreal family was awaiting sentence at their home in Culiacan Sinaloa, monitoring the process via Twitter through messages from reporter Victor Hugo Michel, Milenio News special correspondent.

After reading that their relatives were sentenced to hang, Alejandrina Villarreal, sister of the accused, said they would appeal the sentence and that the family is hopeful they will see Luis Alfonso, Jose Regino and Simon alive.
