CHICAGO – The Mexican National Team suffered its first loss under current manager Miguel "Piojo" Herrera. A 0-1 loss to Bosnia and Herzegovina in Chicago put an end to a eight game unbeaten streak that started against New Zealand last November.
Mexico faced their toughest test to date in World Cup preparation matches with this small but talented European Nation that scored over 30 goals in World Cup qualifiers.
It was the Bsnians who controlled the opening minutes of the match having several close call with shots from inside and outside of the box. The Mexican defense had a hard time keeping up with recently crowned EPL champion Edin Dzeko.
Following the opening onrush from the Europeans, the Mexicans were able to get a hold of the ball and start playing in the other side of the field. Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez found some open space on a couple of long passes but could not find the necessary control.
Before the first half came to an end once again Dzeko created some magic around the box which allowed his teammate Izet Hajrovic all alone for a tap in goal.
In the second half "Piojo" Herrera changed his usual 5-3-2 formation and sent out a 4-4-2 with two holding midfielders instead of one since the Bosnian's were controlling the midfield all of the first half.
El Tri pushed forward in search of the equalizer and came close on several occasions, but the Bosnia goalkeeper came up with several quality saves to keep Mexico off of the scoreboard.
Up next for Mexico will be a trip to Boston, Massachusetts to play their final World Cup preparation match against Portugal.
