Mexican authorities are working on housing for the 11 to 12 thousand people living in three nearby towns closes to the Popocatepetl volcano, which has been very active the last few days.
"There is already beds and water for the almost 12,000 people who live in the towns near the volcano" said Luis Felipe Puente Espinosa the coordinator of National Civil Protection to MVS radio.
The Center for Nacional Protection of disasters (Cenapred) elevated the alert to "yellow face three"; one step below red which has two levels. Plans are under way for emergency medical attention in the state of Puebla.
This alert was heighten due to some eruptions, a constant earthquakes, and ash exposure in the air.
The Yellow alert face three means there is more possible eruptions of greater intensity and burning pieces of rock being launched into the air. Said Cenapred
With this level of alert "Federal, State, and municipal authorities need to coordinate and the citizens must be alert and follow all instruction the authorities give" Said Puente Espinosa.
The attention now is on the three closest towns to the volcano; Santiago Xalitzitla, San Nicolas de los Ranchos, and San Pedro Benito Juarez which are within the 12 kilometer danger zone.
"For the moment the Secretary of National Defenses (Sedena) has sent in military forces to help. They have established health centers and are looking into the amount of ashes being emitted into the Puebla air"
"For the moment there is no evacuation order. In case there is a protocol is in place to mobilize and transport the citizens out and into the evacuation centers that are being prepared right now" said Puente Espinosa
In case of going into red alert face 1 the citizens way of life would be affected. Classes would be canceled, and the schools would be used as evacuation centers. Said the head of Civil Prtoeccion.
Cenapred experts are evaluating the Popocatepetl volcano and observing the evaluation that the volcano has had to determine wether it will self destruct or keep growing.
Following these air observations the experts will put out a new bulletin with the latest information on the volcano.
Last week's increased volcano activity caused large number of ashes to fall on the nearby town as as well as the state capital of the same name; Puebla, were approximately 2.5 million citizens live.
The ash rain on May 7 left rooftops, streets, and cars covered in ashes as deep as half a centimeter.
Popocatepetl volcano is located in the state of Puebla almost on the border with the state of Morelos and state of Mexico, about 70 kilometers southeast of the Mexican capital.
