In her first annual address to the nation on September 1, 2025, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum positioned the defense of national sovereignty as a cornerstone of her administration.

President Sheinbaum declared that Mexico will not accept interventions, interference, or any acts from abroad that undermine the country’s integrity and sovereignty under any circumstances.

Defense of national sovereignty

The president emphasized that Mexico will not allow coups d’état, interference in electoral processes, or intrusions by land, sea, or airspace. She framed this stance as essential to safeguarding Mexico’s democratic stability and reaffirming its independence from external pressures.

Sheinbaum also addressed the country’s critical relationship with the United States. She acknowledged recent trade tensions but stressed that a dynamic of mutual respect has been established.

“Mexico is the country with the lowest tariff imposition in the world. Within the framework of the USMCA, we can achieve even better conditions,” she said.

Concluding her address, Sheinbaum presented her administration as one that arrives “with results in hand,” asserting that the government’s progress to date reflects tangible achievements rather than promises. She invited the nation to see a strong, sovereign stance as fundamental to securing Mexico’s economic, political, and social development.
