MEXICO CITY – The federal government announced that Interior Secretary Francisco Blake Mora and seven others died when their helicopter crashed en route to a meeting in Cuernavaca.

Blake Mora, 45, was reportedly heading there with members of law association and other government officials. The helicopter plummeted to the ground in Xochimilco, south of Mexico City.

Blake’s roots were in Baja California. The Tijuana native represented the state in Mexico’s Congress and was Baja California Interior Secretary under Gov. José Guadalupe Osuna Millán from 2007 to 2009. He was appointed by President Felipe Calderón to his cabinet in July of 2010.
