The six-year period during which Felipe Calderon has served as President of Mexico, will be remembered as one of the most violent presidential terms that the country has experienced.

It has been spoken of in more than a few occasions about the 60,000 lives have been lost during the fight against drug trafficking, and yesterday both the newspaper El Universal and the magazine Proceso in conjunction with the Attorney General's Office (PGR) have revealed that at least 1,300 people were also beheaded.

Adding to this problematic situation in Mexico has also included, the appearance of lethal narc-banners, corpses hanging from bridges and bodies of victims who were dissolved in acid. Criminal groups have used these strategies to create intimidation in the population, and also against other power groups who they compete for territories with, thus increasing their reputation as violent groups and also for propaganda purposes.

Statistics show that the states most affected by these incidents are or have been Chihuahua, Guerrero, Tamaulipas, Durango, Sinaloa, State of Mexico, Jalisco, Coahuila, Veracruz and until a couple of years ago, Baja California.

Currently the population, business groups and government officials have increased their activities in the fight against organized crime, which they are expecting that these efforts will also help reduce the violence rate even more. For example, border cities like Tijuana and Ciudad Juarez; have observed that their citizens are returning to the city after they had been away for security threats.
