TIJUANA.- Over 200 deportees from the United States receive support each month from programs and services offered by the Migrant Attention System under the department of Integral Family Development (DIF). The Municipal Government has been committed to facilitating migrants' stay in this border region, or in come cases, assisting with returning them to their places of origin.

Efren Cuellar Franco, the head of the department, indicated that the purpose is to support migrants during their stay specifically by helping them apply for official documentation and a temporary official identification card, as well as food and clothing, and medical services. The lack of proper identification is a great hurdle for many migrants, who are unable to apply for jobs, rent housing, or engage in any number of necessary activities without proper ID.

Additionally, those that wish to can receive support to return to their places of origin. In this case, they receive free transportation and a "travel kit" which includes clothes and food for the journey.

Other services offered include medical and psychological treatment; legal assistance, clothes, food, and a personal hygiene care kit, in addition to temporary identification which has a 30 day long validity.
