After the high rates of migration to the United States and the new generations, for the first time the birth rate showed that more than half occur among minorities compared to U.S. born.
From 1990 to date, minorities grew from 37% to 50.4%, especially the group of Hispanics.
PEW, the research and social survey center, explains the reasons for this new trend, and also points out that the future is uncertain due to the economic crisis that affects worldwide, along with anti-immigrant laws being developed in several States of the country. Particularly, the anti-immigrant laws have caused division and hostility among society, something that will take years to repair.
The Census Bureau estimates that by 2042, American born will be a minority even with the slow growth of minorities today.
Another factor to consider is the current tolerance where new couples are mixing racial groups; todays society approves interracial dating and marriage.
To understand the new trend, the fertility on women of each group should also be considered. PEW shows that among Hispanic and African American women, motherhood occur when theyre between 20 and 30 years old, while among white and Asian women, it shows when theyre between 30 and 40 years. Women who wait longer to have children are those who give priority to school and professional development.
