San Diego.- Any person can access information about active cases being handled by the San Diego District Attorney's Office through the Internet.
On Friday, District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis announced the site, which the public will be able to use to obtain basic information about any criminal case the office is handling.
"It's important the members of the public, especially victims, interested in following our cases have a place where they can easily find basic information," she said in a press release.
Cases available for review are those where charges have been filed, either misdemeanors or felonies. Cases involving minors or those outside of the District Attorney's jurisdiction are exempted.
The public will be able to get information such as the name of the accused, the date and time of the next court appearance, the Superior Court file number and the name of the judge hearing the case.
Members of the public will be able to access this information on the San Diego County District attorney's site.
They also will be able to register an e-mail address to receive alerts or updates about the cases they are following.
The office set up the website in part to comply with the California Victim's Bill of Rights, known as Marsy's Law.
According to the release, the District Attorney's Office files around 40,000 cases each year, and has a felony conviction rate of 94 per cent.
